Groundedness, as the name suggests, is a feeling of strong support under one’s feet; if we transfer this to psychology, then it is a confident and balanced state of the human psyche. This concept appeared in psychology for a reason: almost every person had situations when he felt that the ground was disappearing from under his feet, could not “grope” for support within himself when it was necessary, and felt detachment and isolation from the real outside world. Grounding techniques are designed to help in such situations. Let's consider some of them. In this case, it helps to go outside (or to the balcony/look out the window) and look around. Find any object and focus on it. This could be, for example, a tree. Consider it: what shape is its crown/trunk, what color are the leaves, what kind of tree is it, what shape are the leaves, what grows at its base, what kind of shadow it casts on the ground, are there birds sitting on it, or are there bird nests, etc. d. The object can be anything. Focus on the legs: how they stand firmly on the floor, feel how the earth “pulls” towards itself. If at the same time there is an opportunity to go barefoot to the ground, then that’s generally great. Remember the indescribable sensations on the beach in the sand or on the soft grass in the garden? It is in these cases that grounding works. You can put on your favorite clothes or wrap yourself in a blanket. The fabric should be pleasant in texture, color and warm. Notice to yourself how it touches your skin, what sensations arise, how it smells, how it envelops you. Another great way to “ground yourself” is to take a bath or shower. Let it be in a calm environment, with your favorite shower gel or bubble bath. Listen to the sound of the water, see how rainbow bubbles of foam form, feel the temperature of the water, feel how the water flows down your body. Breathing techniques help perfectly in almost any situation. There will be no exception here either. Focus on your breathing, breathe slowly, imagining how air is drawn into your lungs and smoothly leaves them. You can put your hands on your chest and stomach to feel the body being filled with air. As you can see, all these techniques are designed to “invigorate” a person’s senses, thus “returning” him to the earth and allowing him to feel his body. What other grounding techniques do you know?
