The modern world is changing so quickly that sometimes it seems as if life is slipping out of control. Each of us is surrounded by so many opportunities and resources for self-development, achieving success and happiness that this abundance literally immobilizes us and gives us the feeling that it will not disappear anywhere - we can return later, but now work, household chores, children. We often forget the importance of the present moment, postponing our dreams and goals for later. This behavior is a sure sign of delayed life syndrome. It is this phenomenon that will be discussed in this article. Let's consider the causes of the syndrome and how to start living in the present and fulfill your most cherished dreams. What is Deferred Living Syndrome Deferred living syndrome, also known as “future procrastination,” is a condition in which people consciously or unconsciously put off important decisions, tasks, and dreams until an uncertain future. This syndrome is often accompanied by the feeling that one day everything will get better and we will be ready to start living life to the fullest. At the same time, “someday” may never come, and we will remain trapped by our own expectations. Causes of delayed life syndrome In order to “cure”, it is necessary to understand the causes of behavior and what it is connected with. First of all, you need to look towards fears. There may be several of them, for example, fear of failure and fear of the unknown: Fear of failure. People may be afraid of failure and therefore delay action to avoid disappointment. Fear of the unknown. Many of us are afraid of the unknown and don't want to leave our comfort zone. By postponing life changes, we are trying to get away from the fear of what might happen. A few more possible reasons: Perfectionism. Perfectionism may be one of the main causes of delayed life syndrome. We wait for the perfect moment or conditions to take action, and this may never happen. Waiting for ideal conditions or results can lead to endless procrastination. Lack of clear goals. Without clear goals and motivation, it's easy to put off decisions and actions. How to start living in the present The best time to start taking action is now. You need to keep this phrase in your head constantly. I’m sharing a few recommendations that can help you stop procrastinating: Define your goals. The first step to living presently is to define your goals and dreams. What do you want to achieve? What do you really want in life? Take several sheets of paper and write down everything that comes to your mind. Develop an action plan. Develop a concrete action plan that will help you get closer to achieving your goals. Break big tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. Delegate. Routine and everyday life can take up a lot of personal time and energy. And making your dreams come true requires energy. Talk to your family, colleagues, 99.99% there will be things that others can do, and you will have time and energy to live right here and now. Embrace uncertainty. Remember that life will always be uncertain and the perfect moment may never arrive. Accept this fact and start acting now. Calm your fears. Work on overcoming fears and doubts that may be holding you back from starting new projects. You can do a simple exercise: think, what is the worst thing that will happen if your fears come true? What can you do to prevent this from happening? What will you do when they become reality? (minimum 10 actions) Explore the world and grow. Invest in self-development, learn new things, develop skills. This will help you be ready for opportunities when they arise. Practice mindfulness. Focus on the present moment, enjoy each day. At the end of each day, write down what good things happened that you are grateful for. You can thank yourself even for a small action. Delayed life syndrome can limit our.
