“What do you want?” or “Requests in psychological counseling.” At a psychological consultation, after talking about the problem, the psychologist asks the client to formulate a request, that is, to say what he would like to receive from psychological work. There are constructive or operational requests, and non-constructive ones, i.e., which cannot be implemented. Non-constructive requests are understood as: • Manipulative. When a client asks a psychologist to change another person without his consent. For example: “Make him obey”, “I want her to be frank with me”, etc. An exception would be a parent’s request to work with children with severe behavioral and mental disorders. • Query with generalization. These are phrases that contain “always” or “never”. For example: “I want to always be confident”, “So that I never get offended”, etc. This is impossible. By constructive requests we mean: • Informational. When there is not enough psychological information about compliance with age-related developmental norms, about the possibilities of psychological change and its prognosis, when living conditions have changed and it is not clear what’s next, etc. For example: “Is it normal for a 3-year-old child to ask about death?” (spoiler: normal), “How to help a loved one overcome grief?” etc.• Request for self-knowledge. It is associated with a change in self-image and usually occurs during periods of crisis (eg adolescence, crisis of 30). For example: “What is my temperament, character?”, “Why is this happening to me...?” etc.• Request for self-development. Learn new skills and behaviors. For example: “Learn to manage your emotions”, “Improve attention or memory”, etc.• Transformation. When a person is in search of new meanings. For example: “I want to change my life.”• Request for symptom relief. A symptom does not necessarily mean a disease, although it can be considered from a psychological point of view, for example, fears or enuresis in a child, being late, etc. Based on the classification of Loseva V.K. and Lunkova A.I..
