Often in consultations I come across one irrational belief that by the age of 30 (mostly this age is called for some reason) you need to have a family, children, an apartment, a car and make a career. And if a person, from his point of view, does not achieve any heights, then a state of despondency sets in, that “everything is lost”, half of his life has been lived and nothing else can be changed, it will only get worse. Plus, this state is accompanied by a feeling of shame in front of oneself and parents , partner, friends and just acquaintances. In psychology there is a concept of Self-efficacy. This is such a strong belief in the effectiveness of one’s efforts, the expectation of success from their implementation. I recently watched the film “The Founder”, which impressed me. A film about the founder of the McDonald's chain, Ray Kroc. This is a living example of high self-efficacy. The man turned from a loser into a billionaire, and this happened at the age of 52. He was middle-aged and unhealthy: he had his gall and thyroid glands removed, and was diagnosed with diabetes and arthritis in the early stages. At the same time, Kroc remained an optimist. After numerous failures, almost no one believed in Ray. But he himself had perseverance, self-confidence, changed areas of activity several times and, as a result, achieved great heights and actually lived a second life (he died at the age of 81). Changes have occurred not only in business, but also in personal life. At 66! years old, he married his great love, with whom he had previously known each other for 12 years (the bride was 40 years old) and lived with her until the end of his days. And there are many other examples of people achieving success after 30, 40, 50. Here age is not matter. I myself radically changed my life, after the birth of my third child, I received a second education and built a successful private practice, leaving a prestigious position in a bank. By the way, when I was studying, the age of the students ranged from 25 to 65. It’s never too late to change your life. But if you have lost faith in yourself and can’t cope on your own, you can try working in psychotherapy with a specialist. I suggest exploring this request for consultation, finding the reasons and working with them. When working I use the best techniques from different areas of psychology, psychosomatics, Ericksonian hypnosis.
