From the author: Why do you need psychotherapy to combat excess weight? It seems that everything is so simple. Eat less, move more. You break down, blame yourself, punish yourself, break down again... Probably, there are still difficulties. If excess weight has always been with a person, then it has become a part of him. When from childhood you feel like a funny fat guy for those around you, and suddenly you become a graceful tiger, this creates difficulties in communications, stress, a kind of crisis close to existential - who am I? Chubby or tiger? The need to change your social role and character traits cannot always be realized without outside help. The weight that comes as a result of an event is strongly attached to this event. There may be protection from trauma (they won’t try to seduce me if I’m scary), and an attempt to hide from circumstances (thoughts about losing a loved one get eaten up and washed away, instead of being worked through), and some kind of secondary benefit (weight adds a hundred points to my and so catchy style, everyone is looking at me), and much more. Some things in the head that lead to increases in the body can be left, others need to be removed, but all of them must be conscious. Among other things, it happens that a person cannot stop in time. Due to complexes, inadequate self-perception, difficulties with body boundaries, etc., it seems to him that he needs to lose a little more, and a little more. Here it’s not far from anorexia, and maybe even to tragedy. Psychotherapy when working with excess weight is comprehensive: - Determining the problem that makes a person get fat or prevents him from losing weight. Fix this issue. - Working with the body. You need to perceive him realistically, feel him, listen to his needs. - Work with eating behavior. - Working with nutrition culture, developing a healthy understanding of the role of food in life. - Informing about nutrition, body functioning. - Creating a harmonious model of behavior, maintaining it. - Detecting and exposing misconceptions related to nutrition and movement. - Psychological support along the way. Of course, this was all invented for a reason. All this is needed to make the path to the goal easier, faster, more enjoyable. Without breakdowns, feelings of guilt, constant punishment, frantic, destructive enthusiasm, self-punishment.
