It is not difficult to notice that one of the topics I most closely develop is the topic of madness. I write articles and dissertations about this, give lectures, give comments to the media, and even worked on research in a mental hospital. Therefore, when meeting people who are not closely acquainted with me, a logical question arises: “Why study madness at all?” If I were far from the sphere of psychoanalysis and philosophy and suddenly met my real self on the Internet, I would ask the question: “what What kind of game is this woman studying and why should I go to see her if I’m not crazy?” Sometimes people directly ask me why I study all this. Can you go crazy?! Doesn't this frighten people who are looking for a psychoanalyst to solve quite ordinary and everyday problems: relationships, self-determination, depression or money troubles? When I asked myself the question “why does a psycho-specialist know what “hardness” is and be able to work with it?”, the first thing that came to my mind was the phrase “because otherwise he’s such a specialist, because he doesn’t know.” , how the human psyche works.” Probably, you can call yourself a psychologist (or even a psychoanalyst), and lay out tarot cards in your office or organize marathons called “awaken your feminine/masculine/reptilian power.” Or you can do without this by writing in the questionnaire “I don’t work with psychotics” and helping people whom you consider normal and healthy, shying away from any “problem” schizophrenics. But is it professional? 90% (or more?) of specialists in the psychological field position themselves as relationship experts, talking about problems in marriage, infidelity, conflicts in couples. Why? Yes, because this is the most common problem, people are willing to pay for a quick solution and, are often not ready to delve into themselves. But what if these problems have roots that are much deeper than they seem at first glance? What if all human problems that cause suffering are problems of early relationships, manifesting themselves in different variations in adulthood? We must remember that the psyche itself is not given to a person at birth, but is formed gradually and only in sociality. Thanks to others, important others, those with whom the first relationships are established, a person is generally able to gain psyche, self-awareness, and subjectivity. After birth, each of us goes through a complex cycle of intrapsychic mechanisms, as a result of which we perceive the external environment and react to it, thus gradually developing as a subject. In addition, if we are talking about the development of the psyche, then we should remember that the processes occurring in the psyche of an infant are identical to those that work in the psyche of psychotics (with schizophrenia, paranoia, depression, etc.). That so-called normality is always acquired by a person only through passing through “pathology”. And that many processes that did not go through properly in infancy make themselves felt in adulthood, and are often successfully disguised under the veil of social success. In addition, mental mechanisms and various mental defenses work the same way in both the so-called “sick” and psychotics and “normal” neurotics. Moreover, even with a psychotic personality structure, a person can lead a completely ordinary life without separation from reality, that is, without hearing voices or seeing hallucinations, and therefore even an experienced specialist at the first meetings cannot immediately form a correct idea of the structure of the psyche. This is why I think that it is important for any specialist working with the psychic to know how psychic reality works in general, without a black-and-white division into healthy and psychotic.
