From the author: Every time a person talks about his lack of self-confidence, he is talking about a piece of information about himself, the one on which his attention is concentrated. But besides this, the person applied to himself any assessment criteria or personality theory with which he is familiar. But this is only part of the whole. There is still no unity in understanding the structure of personality in modern psychology and sociology. When we talk about our self-esteem, we always - consciously or unconsciously - feel and evaluate our personality according to some “coordinate system”. In psychology, there is the concept of “personality structure” - a model of a person. Personality structure is a holistic model, a system of qualities and properties that fully characterizes a person. In psychology, there are a huge number of models of personality structure. The most famous and used even by non-psychologists are theories: - psychoanalysis by S. Freud: personality consists of Id/Id, Ego, Super-ego; - transactional analysis: Inner Child, Inner Adult, Inner Parent; - humanistic psychology: talks about the Pyramid of Needs and, accordingly, they are the physical appearance of a person (Body/Individual), social (Personality) and spiritual and aesthetic needs (Soul). The above three models and models of other theories are ultimately a way to understand oneself according to certain factors-traits. Currently, the theory of personality describes about 200 trait factors necessary for a complete psychological description of a person. Each method of describing a person’s personality contains certain criteria, which are chosen as the main ones. And when we consider our personality according to the model of any psychological or social theory, we automatically evaluate ourselves according to these criteria. Therefore, the indicator of personal self-esteem is an indicator of the “measurement scale” that was included in this model. And if you received self-esteem that caused you negative emotions, a decadent mood or anger at yourself, this does not mean that you are some kind of low-quality person. This is, first of all, an indicator of the analysis of the information about you as a person that was activated and analyzed by this personality model. So how can a person realize what he is like in reality? After all, there are so many theories about the structure of personality and tests for assessing it? It’s good when there are many theories about one object or process. You can look at it from different perspectives and learn something new. Different versions help to see common details that are characteristic of all options, and therefore to isolate what is acceptable for all versions, i.e. determine a universal model. On the following pages you will be able to assess your personality from different points of view of psychological theories. But first, let's pay attention to these general details and put them into a universal model of human personality.Read more
