Under the influence of external circumstances and internal motivations, a person may have desires that are incompatible with his ethical and aesthetic views. The collision of desires with opposing norms of behavior leads to intrapsychic conflict. And there is a displacement of desire, unworthy thoughts into the unconscious. If repression, for example, of sexual energy does not occur, then neurosis will not occur, but will result in perversion (perversion). Repression always serves our protection. But what about our psyche, in which a huge number of unsatisfied desires are repressed? Repression itself is a prerequisite for neurosis. An event, an impulse, a desire has left the consciousness of memory, but at the first opportunity it can be activated. It is impossible to return him to consciousness, this is where our Deputies, our neurotic symptoms, come into play. Recycled and distorted, we are not us. The most important thing here is that instead of a short-term conflict of interest, we get long-term suffering. Speaking about repression, S. Freud raised, first of all, questions about its forces, motives and conditions of existence. A person “escaps into illness,” S. Freud believed. For recovery, it is necessary that the symptom be transferred back to the repressed representation. And what was repressed is translated back into consciousness. By overcoming resistance, this intrapsychic conflict, which was avoided, will be able to find a way out. The method of free associations and thoughts perfectly reflects the original sources of repression. The way in which we present our thoughts that freely come to our minds gives rise to interesting observations. Examples of such “camouflaged intentions and thoughts: You will now think that I want to tell you something offensive, but in fact I do not have such an intention (I do have an intention!). Are you asking who this face from the dream looks like? It is not a mother (we understand that it is). I will not give examples, slips, slips, sedums, they are all conscious, but not accepted by our desires, impulses, thought-images, feelings. Which in turn are repressed into the “safe” unconscious part of the psyche, but which grows more and more of our Deputies! Which, sometimes for many years, live with us in the form of neurotic symptoms, poisoning our lives, serving as a source of various anxieties, fears, aggression, accumulated tension, irritation or suffering.
