I am consulting a rehabilitator who has recently arrived at the Center. Alcoholic with great experience. I came at the insistence of relatives. He believes that he can get rid of addiction on his own, without the help of specialists. It is difficult to convince him of the opposite - he is an educated man, he gives a lot of arguments that are difficult to argue with (alcohol is sold everywhere... everyone, they say, drinks and - nothing... etc.). I encourage him to be more specific - I say , name the people you personally know who THEMSELVES stopped drinking, who THEMSELVES recovered from alcoholism! Names one name. I ask: - Is it difficult to name his phone number? He calls in a hurry. Then he stops short. Why did I supposedly need this? I say that I personally want to meet the first person who HIMSELF recovered from alcoholism. I start dialing his number. Suddenly, our rehabilitator turns red and tenses. He says that he may have given the number incorrectly and forgot it. In short, I began to get out of it. I asked: “What’s wrong with you?” He: “Don’t call him, please.” Me: “I didn’t want to, actually.” (smile) He: - I was told that with you we need to keep our ears open! We laugh together. The conversation turns to motivation for recovery.
