According to Sigmund Freud, the desire to rule is one of the types of neurotic insanity that comes from a feeling of helplessness and fear of the outside world. Alfred Adler even writes that the basis of the desire for power is such a pathological phenomenon as "inferiority complex". The human psyche, getting rid of traumatic experiences, for example, constant humiliation, triggers a mechanism of overcompensation, which is expressed in the obsessive need to have superiority over others. Erich Fromm noted that, psychologically, the thirst for power is rooted not in strength, but in the weakness of the individual and his fear of society. It reveals the inability of an individual to stand alone and live by his own strength. It turns out that the main task of a person who strives for power is to survive. First among peers, then among larger society. The opportunity to connect these two things, humiliation in childhood, and revenge in adulthood was born to me immediately. I imagined a picture of how it was unbearable for a child to withstand the pain, he was alone, no one protected him, and it was a shame to share the pain. The only thing the child dreamed of all his life was revenge. He can come to revenge having power, money, strength, control. And then he will become big, invincible, will return to where he was run over, where there was unbearable pain and will take revenge on everyone. From now on, no one will be able to hurt him, he has already deprived himself of feelings and protected himself with power. As soon as a person approaches power, his voice immediately becomes high, arrogant. The idea of his own power makes him more decisive and daring. He seems invincible and strong. The root of the thirst for power is terrible self-doubt. People who begin to behave this way and seek power wherever possible are people who have acquired a mass of complexes and fears about themselves. As a rule, such people who are sick with a thirst for power never admit to anyone their fears and complexes. In fact, they are very vulnerable. They are like abandoned babies, they scream, but no one comes to the cry. Is it possible to give up power? I don't know, but I think Yes, only through personal awareness or feelings of unbearability.
